Jim "The Genius" Phillips
Jim "The Genius" Phillips is one of the best shapers in the world. here is a link that backs up that statement.
http://www.jimthegenius.com/Jim_Phillips_Surfboards/The_Message.html
Its an honor to have known Jim all theses years. We competed in multiable East Coast and US Championships. About 2 weeks ago someone gave me an old board that was made in New York.
I tracked down the shaper and it turns out it was Jim. Here is what he said
"Hey Cleanlines, whaddah you think, says JKP on stringer, any chance that could stand for James Kenneth Phillips, this has to be one of the first string board I shaped on the east coast. Lou at Micris was the VERY first actual surfboard factory that let me be a "shaper", the board is still far under the first 100, could be as low as still in the 30's." Jim Phillips
Just thought I would share this little bit of East Coast History.

Hurricane prediction for the 2012 seasen
Here is the current info on the 2012 hurricane season. As I have said in the past I love the waves and the excitement that those beauties bring. however the fact that i live at the beach and could have my life turned completely upside down if we lost everything. Sort of makes me feel like a gambler in Las Vegas!

History Lesson, Wrightsville Beach 1966
In 1966 this guy opened a surf shop on Wrightsville Beach. He and his mother Millie ran the store for several years. He came in the bike shop where I work to buy some tires for his road bike that he rides to stay in shape.
His name is Frankie Sproul and the surf shop was called the Ocean Surf Shop.cant tell you how much I admire him and all the encouraging advice I received from him at a time when I really needed it. Thanks Frankie!!!!

C street
Over the years my favorite place to surf has been Columbia st. It's where I grew up and where I love to surf today.
A lot of times I just love to pedal up to the bench and park my bike and walk down to the waters edge at columbia st.
Look out and reminisce about some of the best surfing days in my life. Great swells from storms and wonderful summer mornings just taking in the beauty. I not sure if it was me or Jot Owens that gave it the name. One of us called it the
C street reef. It was the California thing to do, we had been traveling back and forth to California and it was our way
Of making it hip! What started this post is Donnie Carmen signed a comment on facebook "C street gang " it got me thinking how it all started.I recently heard that a restaurant opened with the C street name. Iam glad to see iam not the only one that has been touched by this unique place.
